Akg 414 which side

To this end, the EB-P48 revision adjusted the way power was handled in the mic. Extra gain-stages in this mic lowered the noise floor further, but also contributed the sound of the mic becoming further darker and more veiled. Where was the spritely, fleet-footed response and gentle airiness of the original CK12 capsule? In reality, both these assessments are excessive, and I believe the sound clips below demonstrate that. Although they are certainly voiced differently, these two mics are cut from the same cloth.

When we listen to all of these mics back-to-back in a single setting, the difference between models is palpable in certain cases, but far from being near the same level of importance as mic placement, instrument, and performance.

This will be useful to keep in mind before some of us are tempted to preemptively form strong opinions about the newest versions, the XLS and the XL-II. No audio files.

The AKG C is one of the most important and misunderstood microphones of all time. From a brochure for the original AKG C Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm EST.

Are all the C manufactured in the same factory? In a voice-over application? They are also the preferred type of microphone for most studio applications. I see 5. Not that I mind, I only ever use omni and card, but where are the other 4 patterns hiding? Is it Teflon or Nylon? Do you wish to continue? Yes No. Sign up for the AKG Newsletter. Terms of Use. AKG - Which side to address. Once again I find myself wondering how my feeble brain remembers to continue breathing all day and night I went to the AKG site and grabbed the user manual but could not find my answer. So which side do you sing into? Black or Silver? The Black side has the pads and model number on it while the Silver side has the polar pattern switch and logo.

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm not sure whether the HF contouring is a function of the capsule design or the electronics, but if the latter then it might have been preferable from the user's point of view to have just one model available with a switchable high-end lift.

I know that a purist stereo recording should use identical mics, but I actually achieved excellent results with great stereo separation and minimal spill from the other instruments playing in the room, and there was no obvious tonal disparity. Acoustic guitar was also a doddle with the XLII, giving an expensive, sparkly sound but not at the expense of depth.

Recording the acoustic piano is another favourite for Cs, and as the overall tonality hasn't changed to any significant degree I can see this tradition continuing. On a practical note, the LEDs, which are fairly discreet, help in setting up under poor lighting conditions, and also avoid the need for clunky slide switches, but I can't help feeling they could be a disadvantage for TV work, where you need the mic to be as inconspicuous as possible.

Maybe the forthcoming new remote control could include a LED kill switch? While the new Cs are not cheap mics, the new design and the use of modern manufacturing methods have allowed AKG to peg the UK price, retain the classic sound, and introduce some very real improvements, both practical and technical. Furthermore, when compared with flagship mics from other companies, the cost of the Cs compares very favourably.

Over the few weeks I've had these mics, I haven't found anything they do badly, and I've found lots of things they do well. AKG's new control system is rather neat, as is the promise of remote control, and you can't fault the selection of accessories, which includes a tough flight case, a very well-designed shockmount, and a pop shield.

These new mics successfully uphold the classic C tradition for sound, while their extended dynamic range, greater sensitivity, and very low background noise make them suitable for the most demanding music recording tasks. I'll be sorry to see them go back. The new Cs are classics brought up to date.
